Google Maps to PathAway Converter

Postby Jay » Fri Dec 09, 2005 8:11 am

Hi.

I am a computer engineer who newly moved to USA at 2 months ago.

I wanted to use PathAway because I had already Sony Clie & GPS unit.
But there were no calibrated maps of my locations.

So, I have created an application that can make it easy and and efficient to create calibrated PathAway Maps. It uses Map manager dll, and google maps.

This is the idea:

It downloads maps automatically from Google, and only thing that you have to do to get the map (google zoom level 1) of 2048 * 2048 size is:
- Choose the area you want in a Graphical Map Image selector.
- Save the map to PathAway .prc format.
- Add the .prc to HotSync for Palm OS, or copy it via ActiveSync to a folder on your Pocket PC.
- Thats all.

I am finalizing this software and debugging.
As you know, google maps cover the area of US, Canada, Japan, Western Europe.
If you can give me any advice, help me to find bugs, just wanna to look or anything else, please remain replies to this article.
If there are anyone who wants it, I promise to answer for it. :)

Hi Jay,
I'm very interested by your work. Seems wonderfull to use GoogleMaps with PathAway. If I can test anything, I would be very glad.
I'm using PathAway with a treo650 and calibrating maps with Touratech (Windows2000).
Keep me inform !

Thanks for your response Jay.
You can mail me at: olac@bluewin.ch
Touratech is a software for consulting, editing maps, preparing trek. It accepts a multitude of different map format. And the most of all (for Pathaway user), it can export maps, routes or tracks in Pathaway format !
Have a look here for some descriptions.

Hi Jay!

It sounds very interesting.
I have been using Google Earth for some time, and I am looking forward for an easier way to use/calibrate the images from it.
Can you please send me a copy of your work?

Anders
