Using a Treo 650 and LifeDrive with PathAway

Postby dgriff » Wed Jun 29, 2005 10:22 pm

Just wish to know if PathAway works with either a Treo 650 mobile or Palm LifeDrive. Any idea of battery life when using PathAway on each.

Yes PathAway will work with the Treo or Lifedrive. We haven't done specific tests on battery consumption.

Hi,

Battery life on the Treo is excellent. I estimate about 7 hours in total. I guess on the lifedrive it will be less.

Cheers
Erik

Yes Pathaway works with Bluetooth GPS devices. Ensure the Port is set to 'Bluetooth', and baud rate set to the GPS manufacturers specs (usually 4800 baud ) in the GPS Configure Dialog.

Pathaway works on Treo650.
Battery life is very good (with backlight disabled at least 15h).

But Pathaway has some problems with the Treo:
- The keys are not adjustable, so some are not used, others on the wrong place.
- the menu for options gets scrambled often. so you have to reenter it.
- I use a lot of big maps on the SD-Card (about 300MB, each 1-8MB filesize). This causes slow startup, and somtimes corrupts the Bluetooth interface. To recover from it you need to start another bluetooth app (eg. Cetus, very good for timesync). restart pathaway, gps, or palm reset doesn't help. strange that.

Despite that pathaway is really great on palm.

Problem on Treo 650

Postby Verdy » Thu Dec 22, 2005 12:17 pm

:? On Treo 650, the menu got scrambled often (Kipping message above had the same problem), and you just have to re-do it again (and tapping on the screen while you're on the road is difficult).

If I may suggest the menu should be accessible with the buttons, so it can be easily operated using one hand only.

I suggest you try out PathAway 4 (see http://pathaway.com/pw4details.htm. It has many improvements for the Treo. Ie. use of arrow buttons for traversing dialogs and menus, hard keys are customizable, Menus work correctly the first time, and Photo Capture Waypoints.
Also, when you are tracking and press the power off button, Pathaway will continue tracking and will not update the screen. This feature is called "Pocket Mode" for PathAway 4.[/url]
