Problems with trial version
Posted: Fri Aug 18, 2006 9:48 pm
I am messing with pathaway trial version 4 and I have made 2 maps and calibrated them with lat long from google earth. The maps show up in pathaway on my iQue, but the system does not move to my location. The pointer stays centered on the map with every redraw. Sometimes when I "connect" the map disapears sometimes it reloads another map sometimes not.
Assuming I can get it working I'd hope to be able to get the distance to a point in front of me (preferably in yards) This seems to be possible, to do in feet, but it seems geard to routes I just want to measure distance from me to various places I tap on the map.
The plan is to create maps of golf courses from satelite views from Google Earth and use them to play local courses.

To get the measure distance feature, tap on a location on the map, then choose Point Menu->Measure....
Then you can tap on the map and it will show the distances on the bottom of the screen. To change the Anchor point, click on one of the existing markers. Then you can measure from that point to other points.
To set the distances to yards, go into the Preferences Dialog, and change "Elevation" to yards.
You map must not be calibrated correctly. Check that the top-left and bottom-right of the map bound the area of the map.

How do you do that?

I used the 9 point method getting the poins from Google Earth so I think I'll just redo it with the 2 corner method, calibrating to known points from mapsourse. I think that's what you meant by confirming the corner's bounds.
My plan is to use Google earth screenshots as maps for golf.
I have been using Intelligolf all season, about 90 rounds at my home course. It is excellent but you have to have surveyed the course first, and it does not show you the map of the hole you are playing, just text telling you how far things are from your current position. So I am looking for an alternate method, only for courses that I play too infrequently to survey for Intelligolf by hand.
Check out my site www.ottawagolf.com
(and Toronto-Golf.ca, Golf-Montreal.ca etc) I'll be writing all this up as methods of getting the most out of current GPS software for playing golf. I see a lot of potential for pathaway to be used this way and once I figure it out it will be prominently discussed in my review. I'll be registering the product as soon as I sort out the issues I am having and confirm that it will do what I want.

Many frustrating hours later... I give up for now. I can't get it to see my map when connected. I have tried recalibrating several ways and nothing works. On to something else.

Please send me your map. I'll take a look to see what's wrong with it.

OK thanks. There are 2 maps here, one is my home course, the other is my neighbourhood.
I was recalibrating the Neighborhood one since I was at home, testing would be easier than waiting to go to the course.
