Problem with GPS-Connection in Version 5

Postby meinrad » Mon Oct 13, 2008 12:58 am

I have a Samsung i780 with wm 6.0 prof.

In Pathaway version 4, I started Pathaway 4 and was connected automatically with the option of "windows mobile GPS".

In version5 this doesn't work. First I have to open the GPS-options, connect with "none" or a NMEA-protocoll (dosn't matter which one), wait for the message "connected", and then change to "windows mobile GPS" and connect again (don't ask me, how I found out this procedure).
Otherwise I'm waiting for an hour and Nothing happens.

Where could be the problem?

Axel

I have the same problem like you. I use a Samsung Omnia WM6.1. With pathaway4 and other GPS softwares I have no problems with the connection to GPS.
Your workaround works with my Samsung Omnia too.

Have the same problem with Samsung SGH-I780 and Pathaway 5 Professional. The workaround does not help since version 5.00.17 and 5.00.18.

Problem still persists with version 5.00.25 (professional). Workaround does not help here either. Version 4.00.89 works fine. Hope the people at MuskokaTech have a fix for that soon, I am really fond of the new finger touch GUI.

Cheers, Pita.

If someone can send us an output log from PathAway PRO, we can look into what is happening here.
The output log can be generated via GPS-Configure GPS dialog, "GPS Log" section.
- Turn on "Record GPS Data to Log File". In "Settings" turn on "Raw Input data", anc check the "System Debug Info" box.
WHen done recording, the data is output to the "\My Documents\PathAway\PathAwayLog.txt" file.

Send me this file and we'll see if it shows up any useful info.

I found a report that the OMNIA internal GPS is locked out to 3rd party applications if you have a Verison Wireless service. They say Verison will unlock the GPS in the first half of this year.

Does this apply to anyone?

Hello Scott!

First of all let me thank you for your reply! I tried to capture the output the way your described it in the quoted text above, but unfortunately PathAway PRO did not write anything (did not even create the file) in the log. The workaround that was described by meinrad also works with my phone, and then an output log is created, but that log does not really help, does it?

Anyway you find this log below...

Same problem for me with WM6.1 , but the workaround works with my PPC and PA 5 ( 5.00.33) too.

The problem is only immediately after the intallation. Now there is a other Problem: The GPS_Signal into PA is not continuously. 6 Sat fix and after a sec. 0Sat fix, two sec. later 6Sat fix, and so on.
I think it is a bug.
