How to get maps and data onto your iOS device

Postby Scott » Wed Jan 26, 2011 10:53 pm

For maps (Express Edition or higher), you'll need to convert them to PathAway .prc format. You can use our Map Manager for Windows at http://pathaway.com/convert.htm, or use a third party app such as Touratech or Fugawi. See http://pathaway.com/links.htm for map tools and sources.

For Data, PathAway supports GPX, KML, KMZ, and PathAway delimited format.

To get PathAway maps and data into PathAway, there are a number of ways:

Method 1. Use iTunes File Sharing, to copy maps from your PC to your device.
- In iTunes, choose your device from the list at the side panel
- Select the "Apps" Tab.
- Scroll to the bottom, you'll see the title "File Sharing".
- Choose the "PathAway Ex" icon.
- Choose "Add Files..."
- Select the PathAway map(s) to copy to your device.
- Run PathAway on your iPhone or iPad.
- Select "Data->Import".
- Choose the maps to Import, and select "Start Import".
- Once completed, your new maps will be accessable by "Zoom in or out", or by selecting the "Data->Maps" dialog.

or

Method 2. Email the maps to yourself on your iPhone/iPad. Maps can be zipped up together for batch import. Then in your email, "Open" the map attachment with "PathAway Ex"

or

Method 3. You can place the maps and data files on a Webserver or File Sharing service such as iDisk or SkyDrive and "Open" the data directly from Safari. This will force the maps to be imported into PathAway. Again, maps can be zipped up for batch import.

or

Method 4. Use an application such as "Dropbox" to copy your files into your device. Then in the Dropbox app, "Open" the files to import.
(Dropbox will display "Unable to View File". Tap the bottom right (symbol of an arrow inside a box), and select "PathAway Ex" to open in PathAway.

Hello!

I'm using the latest Version of Fugawi (so far with a windows mobile and pathway 5). I now switched to the iphone.
How can I export the maps from Fugawi to the .prc format? I didn't find an option for that.

Thanks in advance!

In Fugawi, you'd need to save the PathAway map to your PC (via Send to PathAway), then follow the steps to get the maps on your iPhone/iPad.

I believe in the latest Fugawi software, to do this you would need to send to "Palm" or "Symbian" device. The maps are all compatible with all devices. Palm and Symbian simply save the maps to your PC as well, then you do the copying to the device.

Get the data from your iOS devices? See more from iOS Transfer, you may get the solution.
