Allway in life it is more useful to look into the future and not behind. Pathaway displays the screen that my position is in the middle - 50 % is where I have been and 50 % is where I want to go. It would be nice for the user to adjust it individually. While sailing I would adjust it for 70 % in front and 30 % behind. I rarely change my direction and pathaway knows in which direction I am going. So it should not be a problem.
I think this is a feature which is specially for handhelds important because the screen is small and it is always poor what you see in front of you in the map.
